Consumer Sciences Doctor of Philosophy

About us

The Consumer Sciences Program offers both PhD and a MS programs that can prepare you to significantly and positively impact consumers within our global economy.

The graduate program core covers research methodology; theories and models in consumer sciences; the behavior of households, families and consumers in the market; and the global consumer marketplace.

Degrees are offered in three concentrations:

  • Family Resource Management focuses on the allocation of financial and other resources to achieve the goals of the consumer.  

  • Hospitality Management focuses on the examination of contemporary topics (e.g., service management, marketing strategies, consumer behavior, technology, social media, aesthetics, sustainability) in the hospitality, tourism and service industries.

  • Fashion and Retail Studies focuses on the investigation of textiles and clothing products and their use by consumers from historical, behavioral and social-psychological perspectives. You will study body image, appearance management behaviors, or consumer responses to phenomena in the retail sector.
