Applicants must submit "official, final transcripts" and “proof of degree(s)" from every college or university where credit was earned. This includes transfer credit, study abroad credit and college credit earned during high school (except AP).
When applying, you may submit scans of official transcripts/diploma/degree certificates. However, if you are admitted, you must ensure official final transcripts and proof of degree(s) are submitted by each institution directly to Ƶ State. Refer to “How to submit” below for acceptable submission methods.
NOTE: Do not send original one-of-a-kind documents, as they will be destroyed.
If you have official transcripts and proof of degree in your possession, you may scan and upload these at the time of application. However, if admitted, you will then be required to have official transcripts and proof of degree(s) sent directly from each institution attended to Ƶ State. Failure to do so will result in a provisional hold on your account, preventing registration.
Transcripts must include a minimum of six semesters or 90 credit hours at the time of application.
Ƶ State students do not have to submit Ƶ State transcripts, unless they are applying to a program using an application service. All other Ƶ State graduates will be prompted to upload their advising report.
Scan and upload your official documents when completing the online application. DO NOT group documents from multiple institutions into one file.
If sending electronically, each previously attended institution must email transcripts directly to Ƶ State at gpadocs@osu.edu via an encrypted email or by attaching a password protected PDF.
If sending via mail, each previously attended institution must send transcripts and proof of degree directly to Ƶ State in a sealed university envelope to the appropriate address below. NOTE: If official transcripts and proof of degree are mailed to any other address, the documents will not satisfy the provisions of your admission.
NOTE: Applicants should never send one-of-a-kind original documents via mail, as they will be destroyed. Please see appropriate submission methods below for further information.
After you are admitted and are on campus, if you scanned and uploaded official documents at the time of application, you may schedule an appointment to meet with an Ƶ State admissions counselor to present your official transcript(s) and proof of degree(s). These documents will be copied and returned to you.
Acceptable documents include:
Official transcripts:
If you indicate on your application that you are currently studying, and/or the transcripts you submit show in-progress work, then final transcripts with updated grades and degree statement/proof of degree earned, if applicable, will be required once admitted.
In addition to transcripts, applicants are required to submit “proof of degree.”
For U.S. applicants, this is typically a statement that is included on the final transcript confirming the type of degree earned and the date the degree was granted, awarded, or conferred.
For international applicants, the proof of degree is often found on a separate document, such as a diploma or degree certificate. Proof of degree is not the same as graduation date, and therefore the proof of degree requirement cannot be satisfied by a graduation certificate or graduation date. Proof of degree is a clear statement confirming the name of the degree and the date the degree was “granted," "awarded" or "conferred.”
Activate your Ƶ State username (lastname.#) at then check your To Do Items in the to confirm receipt of your transcripts. Processing can take 1 to 10 days.
Submit transcripts and diplomas in their original language with a certified word-for-word English translation. English translations made by the university or a certified translator are accepted; however, translations may never be made by the applicant. If you are on campus, university-affiliated individuals may translate for you and must complete the Translation Verification Form.
If credit is listed as transfer credit on your home institution transcript, submit an official transcript from the institution where the original credit was earned, or from the U.S. college or university that sponsored the study abroad program.
If credit is listed with course names and grades on your home institution transcript, no separate transcript is needed.
Submit transcripts for all post-secondary course work completed during high school, except AP credit.
NOTE: If an institution is listed on your undergraduate transcript or your application, a transcript from that institution will be required, or you will be asked to submit a letter of non-enrollment from that institution confirming that no college credit was awarded.
